Catalans Explore Alternatives, Near Deal for Espanyol’s Star Keeper Garcia
Barcelona remain keen on signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, but the English star’s €48 million valuation could complicate a potential deal. The 27-year-old, who has struggled to rebuild his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim, appears set to leave Old Trafford this summer after a loan spell at Aston Villa.
While Barcelona see the transfer fee as manageable, Rashford’s hefty salary presents a major obstacle to fitting within the club’s strict wage structure. However, the Catalan giants believe United’s strained relationship with the player could force them to lower their demands or even agree to a favorable loan deal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are making significant progress in their pursuit of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The 24-year-old, hailed as one of La Liga’s best, has attracted interest from Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Arsenal, but the Blaugrana have taken the lead by offering a five-year contract with a bonus clause tied to a potential Spain call-up.
Garcia, who has a €25 million release clause, remained coy when asked about the rumors. “Not everything reported is true,” he told TV3. “I’m staying calm and will decide with my closest circle what’s best for my future.”
With Rashford’s situation likely to drag on, Barcelona could prioritize securing Garcia’s signature in the coming days.
