Barcelona reach ‘agreement’ with Leeds star Raphinha

Barcelona have reportedly reached a ‘salary agreement’ on a five year deal for Leeds forward Raphinha.

A report on Monday revealed that the Brazilian had rejected a renewal offer from Leeds which would have nearly doubled his wages at Elland Road.

Raphinha wanted the release clause of £70m reduced, but Leeds aren’t willing to budge, and now it’s claimed Barcelona have made the winger their ‘number one goal’.

That’s according to Sport (via Sport Witness), who claim the Catalans have turned their attention to the 25-year-old having given up hope of landing Erling Haaland fom Borussia Dortmund.

The report states that there is already ‘open negotiation’ and a ‘salary agreement’ has been reached on a five year deal.

Barcelona have ‘submitted a first offer’ of €35m, which Leeds will almost certainly reject, but the La Liga giants want to close the signing before the end of the season.

Raphinha has been linked with clubs in the Premier League as well as abroad and Rio Ferdinand claims he would “go up a level” if he moved to a bigger club.

He said: “Yeah, I like him, I like Raphinha, I like the way he plays. I think he had a spell in the season where he was the most decisive player at Leeds.

“If he went to a better team he would go up a level again. I think there’s more to come from him. He will be an interesting player, especially at that valuation, £25m in today’s market, that’s a good price for someone like him.”

And Tim Sherwood has urged his former club Tottenham to make the “low-risk signing” of Raphinha.

He said: “Very difficult [for Leeds] to keep him. I’m not exaggerating to say he could play anywhere in the Premier League. There is not a team he wouldn’t fit. It depends how regularly he wants to play, and Leeds’ ambition.

“He is only going to be a lot of money to buy, but it is worth it. He has shown that he can play in the Premier League, a low-risk signing. I’d like to have him at Tottenham, I think he’d be a great player at Tottenham.”
