Torres, López, Bardghji and Raphinha Shine in Jeddah Romp, Setting Up Madrid Derby Showdown
Barcelona delivered a dominant, attacking masterclass on Wednesday, overwhelming Athletic Club 5-0 in Jeddah to secure their place in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Inspired by a brace from Raphinha and goals from Ferran Torres, Fermín López, and Roony Bardghji, Hansi Flick’s side ruthlessly punished their opponents to set up a blockbuster final on Sunday against the winner of Thursday’s Madrid derby between Real and Atlético.
After weathering early pressure, Barcelona took control and never looked back. Torres opened the floodgates in the 22nd minute, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box. Just eight minutes later, López doubled the lead with a thunderous strike into the top corner.
The first-half blitz continued as Bardghji’s low drive slipped through before Raphinha capped a spectacular opening period, cutting in from the left and firing an unstoppable shot into the near top corner.
Raphinha added his second and Barça’s fifth early in the second half, hammering home after a goalmouth scramble to complete the rout.
The comprehensive victory sends a powerful message to their rivals and provides a major confidence boost for Flick’s team as they chase the season’s first domestic trophy.
