Catalan Club’s Financial Struggles Lead to Unconventional Transfer Proposal
Barcelona has made an unconventional and controversial transfer offer for Euro 2024’s top scorer, Dani Olmo, amidst their ongoing financial struggles. Due to their inability to pay for transfers upfront, the Catalan club proposed a complex payment structure to RB Leipzig, which was quickly dismissed.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona’s offer amounted to €40 million, to be paid in four annual instalments starting in 2025. Additionally, the deal included €10 million for winning La Liga twice by 2029 and another €10 million for winning the Champions League twice by 2029.
Given Dani Olmo’s calibre, it was unsurprising that Leipzig rejected the proposal, considering it unrealistic and impractical. The German club is holding out for a more straightforward and immediate payment structure.
Manchester United has also shown interest in Olmo, but they are unlikely to meet Leipzig’s financial demands. The Red Devils have already invested nearly £60 million in Leny Yoro and are currently prioritizing other defensive signings, such as Everton’s Jarrod Branthwaite.
Bayern Munich emerges as Barcelona’s main competitor for Olmo’s signature. The German champions could offer a more attractive proposition to the Spanish forward, who may prefer to stay in the Bundesliga rather than relocate to another country. Vincent Kompany’s side, having potentially missed out on Rennes playmaker Désiré Doué to PSG, might now focus their efforts on acquiring Olmo.
