Basketmouth addresses societal ills with debut album Yabasi


At has become very difficult to find a timeless body of work that addresses societal ills and gives hope to the masses and that necessitated my new album,” Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth said during a listening session of his debut album entitled Yabasi (Onion).

The comic act went further to note that he set out to create a body of work that cuts across the diverse strata of life. “I set out to create a soundtrack album that cuts across the diverse strata of life, doing my best to give layers of hope and joy to all who listen. Yabasi is an interesting body of work that perfectly blends highlife music, particularly Igbo highlife music with hip-hop and pop.”

The release of the album was celebrated with an exclusive listening party at LiVE Lounge in Lekki, Lagos.

The listening party, powered by Freeme Music, Zing Network, and Johnnie Walker, witnessed stand-up comedy performances from Buchi, Forever, and Edirin Smith with Basketmouth at the helm as host of the night.

Spotted at the event were entertainment heavyweights that include Waje, Bovi, Ehiz, Oxlade, Jimmie, Steve Chuks, Taymesan, Bizzle Osikoya, Tinya Alonge, Duktor Sett, and Tee-Y mix.

The album, executive produced by Basketmouth, serves as a soundtrack album to his upcoming sitcom, Papa Benji.

‘Yabasi’ features entertainers like Flavour, Ice Prince, Oxlade, Show Dem Camp, Flash, Ladipoe, Chike, Zoro, Bez Idakula, Ceeza Milli, BOJ, Peruzzi, Phyno, Waje, The Cavemen.
