Governor Douye Diri’s Spokesperson Dismisses Claims as “Baseless Fabrications”
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has firmly denied having any form of relationship with former Big Brother Naija reality star Nengi Rebecca Hampson, following rumors that the pair welcomed a child together. The speculation, which has been circulating online, alleged that Nengi had a child with the governor, who is already married to four wives.
In response to the claims, Governor Diri’s spokesperson, Dr. Kola Oredipe, dismissed the rumors as “baseless fabrications” and emphasized that there is no personal relationship between the governor and the reality star. Oredipe expressed disappointment over the spread of false information, particularly at a time when the governor was focused on inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri,” Oredipe stated. “Regrettably, purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor. This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms.”
He further lamented the timing of the rumors, adding, “Sadly, while we were inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were spreading falsehoods about the governor.”
The denial comes amidst a wave of online speculation and debates, with many questioning the credibility of the claims. While some social media users have expressed skepticism about the allegations, others have called for greater accountability in the dissemination of information online.
