Liverpool and Real Madrid remain in the hunt as the defender’s future hinges on a domino effect at the German giants.
The transfer saga surrounding Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has intensified, with Bayern Munich’s director flying in for a secret meeting with the defender’s agent this week.
Guehi, whose dramatic Deadline Day move to Liverpool fell through, is one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders. With his contract expiring in the summer of 2026 and his public desire for a “new challenge,” a major move appears inevitable.
This week, Bayern’s Max Eberl met with Guehi’s representative, Gordon Stipic, for exploratory talks. However, a potential switch to Germany hinges on a key condition: Bayern must first sell one of their current central defenders, Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae.
This complex situation offers a glimmer of hope for other suitors. Liverpool’s interest remains firm despite the previous collapse, but they are at a disadvantage as foreign clubs can negotiate a pre-contract with Guehi as early as January. Real Madrid are also firmly in the race for the England international.
For now, the 25-year-old is focused on his duties at Crystal Palace, aiming to secure a starting spot for England at the 2026 World Cup. But behind the scenes, the wheels are in motion for a major transfer battle, with his next club likely dependent on the first domino falling in the defender market.
