Reality Star Doyin Discusses Her Detachment from Nigeria’s Economic Struggles
Big Brother Naija reality star, Doyinsola Anuoluwapo David, known simply as Doyin, has revealed that while she hears about the economic hardship in Nigeria, she hasn’t experienced it personally.
In a recent podcast interview with YouTuber Olufemi Daniel, Doyin explained that she is unaware of the prices of commodities because her domestic staff handles her shopping.
“I am the most detached Nigerian you can ever meet,” Doyin stated. “I don’t even know what is happening. I don’t know the price of anything. I don’t go to the market. I send my chef and they don’t tell me what the price is.”
Doyin acknowledged that while she knows the cost of items like wigs, makeup, nails, cars, and houses has risen, she is not familiar with the prices of everyday essentials like tomatoes. “I hear there’s hardship in the country and I sympathize with Nigerians. I’m sure that it’s tough,” she added.
She recalled a visit to the Ogba market, where she was moved to tears by the visible suffering of people reacting to money like N50,000 as if it were N5 million. “It’s sad because people are suffering,” Doyin said. “We hope that we’ll have a country one day where the average Nigerian can at least feed.”
Doyin expressed her hope for a better future but remained skeptical about immediate solutions. “I just think Nigeria is a shithole with this kind of leadership. The issue is that the people that are obligated to care about us don’t care about us.”
Her advice to fellow Nigerians was practical: “Do your best to fend for yourself and your family and if you have the opportunity to relocate abroad, do.”
