*Slovenian Striker Signs Five-Year Deal After €85 Million Transfer from RB Leipzig
Manchester United have officially secured the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a deal worth up to €85 million, marking their fourth major acquisition of the summer. The 22-year-old Slovenian international finalized his medical on Friday and is set to be unveiled at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Sesko, who has signed a five-year contract, is expected to leapfrog Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as the Red Devils’ first-choice centre-forward. Despite interest from Newcastle United, the highly rated forward chose United, even accepting a slightly lower wage to join Ruben Amorim’s project.
With 39 goals and eight assists in 87 appearances for Leipzig, Sesko arrives with a burgeoning reputation. His initial €76.5 million fee makes him the seventh-most expensive signing in United’s history. The move concludes a busy summer for the club, which has already brought in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon for a combined €153.2 million.
United had initially targeted Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap, but after Gyokeres joined Arsenal and Delap moved to Chelsea, they swiftly turned their attention to Sesko earlier this month. Now, the Slovenian could make his competitive debut in United’s Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.
Fans will be eager to see if Sesko can deliver immediately as United look to mount a stronger title challenge in the 2025-26 season.
