Breaking: Manchester United Sack Manager Ruben Amorim After 14 Months

Darren Fletcher Takes Temporary Charge After Public Rift with Leadership Seals Portuguese Boss’s Fate

Manchester United have parted ways with manager Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge, the club confirmed on Monday, following a public breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy.

The decision comes a day after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United left the club sixth in the Premier League. Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will take temporary charge for Wednesday’s match against Burnley.

A club statement cited the need for a change to secure “the highest possible Premier League finish,” adding: “The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.”

The dismissal follows incendiary comments made by Amorim after the Leeds match, where he sharply distinguished between being the “manager” and merely the “coach,” and openly questioned the support from the club’s sporting departments.

“I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me,” Amorim had said, highlighting a fractured relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team. “Every department, the scouting department, the sporting director, needs to do their job.”

Those remarks appear to have been the final straw for a leadership group that had grown increasingly uneasy with Amorim’s public critiques and the team’s inconsistent form.

Amorim’s tenure ends with United outside the Champions League places and facing an uphill battle to salvage their season. The club will now begin the search for a fourth permanent manager since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, with Fletcher tasked with steadying the ship in the interim.
