The star striker, absent from the club’s season opener, takes to social media to accuse the club of breaking promises, prompting a firm and “disappointed” response from the Magpies.
A bitter public war of words has erupted between Alexander Isak and Newcastle United, with the star striker declaring his relationship with the club is broken beyond repair. The rift stems from what Isak claims are unfulfilled promises made to him behind closed doors.
The situation escalated when Isak, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year, was notably absent from the awards ceremony on Tuesday. Instead, he released a lengthy statement on Instagram, breaking his silence on the transfer saga that has dominated Newcastle’s summer.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,” Isak wrote. “That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events… The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.”
He concluded with a firm ultimatum: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now.”

Newcastle United responded swiftly and firmly with their own statement just hours later. The club expressed disappointment at the public nature of Isak’s comments and outright denied ever promising him a summer exit.
“Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer,” the statement read. While acknowledging they “listen to their views” of players, the club was clear that “the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired” and they “do not foresee those conditions being met.”
The standoff has left manager Eddie Howe with a “huge gap” in his squad. Isak was absent for the entire pre-season, trained away from the team during their Asia tour, and was left out of the squad for the season-opening 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
The impasse leaves the future of last season’s top scorer, whose 27 goals were crucial to securing Champions League football and an EFL Cup trophy, in serious doubt, casting a long shadow over the club’s new campaign.
