Bruno Fernandes’ Agent Under Investigation in Match-Fixing Scandal

Man United Captain Faces Transfer Uncertainty as Key Representative Probed Over Corruption Claims

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes finds himself in an unexpected off-field dilemma as his longtime agent, Miguel Pinho, faces serious match-fixing allegations in Portugal.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Pinho—who also represents Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio—is under investigation by Portugal’s Public Prosecutor’s Office for alleged sports corruption during the 2015/16 season. Prosecutors claim Pinho offered Marítimo player Edgar Costa €30,000 to underperform in matches against Benfica, though it remains unclear which specific games were involved.

“A Performance Against His Own Team”
The official statement alleges Pinho sought to influence a player to “produce a sporting performance contrary to the interests of his side, aiming to benefit the opponents.” Notably, Benfica won all three meetings against Marítimo that season.

Authorities are now pushing to revoke Pinho’s agent license—a move that would force Fernandes to find new representation during a pivotal moment in his career.

Transfer Plans Thrown Into Chaos
The investigation comes at a sensitive time for Fernandes, who has been linked with a staggering €1.2 million-per-week offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal. While United have no desire to sell their talismanic midfielder, a British record fee exceeding €135 million could tempt the club to reinvest in multiple squad areas.

However, with Pinho’s status in jeopardy, any potential transfer negotiations now face major complications. The situation leaves Fernandes in limbo—both regarding his representation and his future at Old Trafford.

For United, the timing couldn’t be worse. As new manager Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild the squad, the club may now be forced to delay key decisions about their captain’s future until the agent situation becomes clearer.

Neither Fernandes nor Pinho has yet commented publicly on the allegations, but the case threatens to cast a shadow over United’s offseason plans during what was already shaping up to be a transformative summer.
