The United captain leads his team to victory with a goal and key plays ahead of new manager Ruben Amorim’s arrival.
Bruno Fernandes celebrated his 250th game for Manchester United in style, scoring and contributing to two more goals in a decisive 3-0 victory over Leicester City. With Ruben Amorim set to take the managerial reins, Fernandes showcased his leadership on the field, setting a promising tone for the team’s next chapter.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Fernandes fired a clean shot into the net, assisted by an artful flick from Amad Diallo. Though Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi later found a gap in United’s defense, goalkeeper Andre Onana made a vital save to preserve the lead.
Fernandes was involved in United’s second goal, heading down a cross from Noussair Mazraoui that prompted Leicester’s Victor Kristiansen to inadvertently turn the ball into his own net. United controlled the game through the second half, and substitute Alejandro Garnacho secured the win with a sharp strike in the 82nd minute, following a determined run by Fernandes.
The result gives Amorim a solid foundation as he joins during the international break. United’s recent run of three wins and a draw under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has lifted spirits at Old Trafford, where Fernandes has shone, scoring four goals in as many games.
While Amorim will focus on tightening United’s defense, particularly after Ndidi’s near goal, Fernandes’ recent form offers a bright outlook. However, strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford will be aiming to improve in the games ahead, as both had a quiet performance despite the team’s success.
Player of the Match
Bruno Fernandes was the clear standout, not only scoring the opener but also setting up crucial plays. He dictated the game from midfield, creating opportunities and ensuring United kept control, ending with a decisive assist for Garnacho’s goal.
