Brentford star vows to “reach another level” at Old Trafford as Amorim begins attacking overhaul
Bryan Mbeumo has described his £70 million transfer to Manchester United as a “dream” come true, with the former Brentford forward pledging to elevate his game under new manager Ruben Amorim.
The 24-year-old, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, completed his move to Old Trafford on Monday and could make his debut during United’s preseason tour of the United States, which begins this week.
“As soon as I knew United wanted me, I had to seize this chance—it’s the club I dreamed of as a kid,” Mbeumo told reporters. “My mindset is simple: improve every day. With Amorim’s guidance and world-class teammates, I know I can take my game to new heights here.”
The deal, however, was not without friction. Sources close to United told ESPN they grew frustrated with Brentford’s shifting valuation of the player, while the Bees reportedly felt the Red Devils deliberately structured Mbeumo’s wages attractively to lure him before lowballing the transfer fee compared to rival bids from Newcastle and Tottenham.
Mbeumo’s arrival signals the start of a major attacking overhaul under Amorim. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho are all expected to depart this summer as United look to rebound from their worst-ever Premier League campaign—a dismal 15th-place finish, just three spots above relegation, with record-low points and defeats.
With United’s goal-scoring woes ranking among the league’s worst last season, Mbeumo’s clinical edge offers hope. But the pressure is on: the club hasn’t lifted the title in 12 years, and Amorim’s rebuild must deliver immediate results to revive the fallen giants.
