In a posthumous birthday tribute, the Nigerian star shares regret over their unresolved plans and a quiet peace made over DMs.
In a poignant and personal tribute, Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has revealed that he and the late South African rapper AKA had privately resolved their long-standing feud before AKA’s tragic death.
The revelation came in a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating what would have been AKA’s birthday. Burna Boy expressed deep regret that their reconciliation, which happened quietly over social media messages, never led to the collaboration they had planned.

“Happy birthday Supa Mega,” Burna Boy wrote. “We fell out over bullsh*t even though we squashed it over Twitter DMs nobody knew about. We never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do. I will regret that until I see you again.”
Their public dispute began in 2019 after AKA made comments perceived to encourage xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa, leading Burna Boy to issue a stern warning. The tension between the two major African music figures became a notable rift in the industry.
AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Forbes, was shot and killed outside a Durban restaurant on February 10, 2023. The trial for his murder is ongoing.
Burna Boy’s public admission not only sheds light on a private peace made between the two artists but also underscores the lingering sorrow of missed opportunities, adding a new, somber layer to the legacy of their once-public rivalry.
