Top African Football Stars Nominated for CAF African Player of the Year and Other Prestigious Honors
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the official list of nominees for the men’s categories in the highly anticipated CAF Awards 2024, set for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco. Covering performances from January to October 2024, the awards will recognize the year’s top African talent across multiple categories, including the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year.
Ten players have been shortlisted for the CAF African Player of the Year title, including Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), who finished as a finalist last year. The list also features Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns), and Amine Gouiri (Algeria/Rennes), among others. Williams stands out with nominations in three categories: Player of the Year, CAF Goalkeeper of the Year, and CAF Interclub Player of the Year.
Other prominent categories include CAF Interclub Player of the Year and CAF Coach of the Year, each boasting ten nominees, as well as CAF Young Player of the Year, spotlighting rising stars under 21. The CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year category also returns with ten nominees, celebrating the continent’s top goalkeepers. Winners will be decided by a diverse panel, comprising members of the CAF Technical Committee, media, and national team captains and coaches from CAF Member Associations, along with clubs in Interclub group stages.
The announcement of nominees for the women’s categories is expected soon. Last year, Victor Osimhen (Nigeria) and Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria) won the CAF African Player of the Year titles for men and women, respectively.
