Cardi B Vindicated as Jury Rejects $24 Million Assault Lawsuit

The rapper, emotional after the verdict, declares she will never settle frivolous claims after being cleared in a tense civil trial.

Rapper Cardi B was cleared of all allegations Tuesday after a Los Angeles jury dismissed a $24 million civil lawsuit that accused her of slashing a woman’s face during a heated 2018 confrontation.

The trial, which featured dramatic courtroom appearances and tense exchanges, ended with a full rejection of plaintiff Emani Ellis’s claims. Ellis had alleged that a then-pregnant Cardi B shouted racial slurs, spat at her, and scratched her face with long fingernails outside a Beverly Hills medical office.

Cardi B’s legal team presented a different story, arguing that Ellis was the aggressor. They stated the “Bodak Yellow” artist, who was roughly four months pregnant at the time and keeping her pregnancy private, was aggressively approached by Ellis, who tried to film her on a phone. The situation escalated into a “profanity-laced screaming match” before medical staff intervened.

The jury ultimately sided with the musician, dismissing the claim for compensation. An emotional Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, spoke to reporters after the verdict, firmly maintaining her innocence.

“I swear to God, I will say it on my death bed, I did not touch that woman. I did not touch that woman,” she declared.

She also issued a stern warning to anyone considering similar legal action in the future: “But the next person that tries to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to counter-sue and I’m going to make you pay. Don’t you ever think that you’re going to sue me and I’m going to settle and just give you money because it’s not going to happen.”
