Former Arsenal and Chelsea star openly targets top English coaching job as pressure grows on current United boss
As Manchester United’s struggles deepen early in the 2025/26 season, speculation over the club’s managerial future has intensified—and one surprising name has entered the conversation: Cesc Fabregas.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, now forging a promising coaching career with Italian side Como, has not been shy about his ambition to one day take the reins at a top English club.
United’s shaky start—which includes a humiliating Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town—has placed current manager Ruben Amorim under severe pressure. Should the Portuguese coach be dismissed, Fabregas is among those reportedly being considered.
Fabregas, who won multiple Premier League titles as a player, has repeatedly expressed his desire to manage in England. In an August 2023 interview with Sky Sports, he said: “The Premier League is the objective; it’s the biggest dream a coach can have.”
He later told Standard Sport: “One hundred percent, my ambition one day is to coach a top club in the Premier League.”
Yet a move to Old Trafford may come with complications. In 2024, Fabregas offered a blunt assessment of United, suggesting the club lacked direction and “ruined” players such as Casemiro and Jadon Sancho.
As United weigh their options, Fabregas’s Premier League dream remains alive—but whether he sees his future at the Theatre of Dreams is far from certain.
