Record-breaking chef tackles colossal culinary feat in Lagos, with plans to feed thousands and donate to charity.
The air in Lagos is thick with anticipation and the aroma of spices as celebrated chef Hilda Baci begins her ambitious attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice. The monumental effort, which kicked off at the Eko Hotels, is a spectacle of culinary scale and community spirit.
At the heart of the attempt is a custom-built pot, a staggering 6 meters in diameter with a capacity of 22,619 liters. The ingredients assembled are a sight to behold, filling the space with sacks of peppers, tomatoes, and onions, alongside kegs of vegetable oil, countless seasoning cubes, and vast quantities of tomato purée.
The logistical challenge is immense, requiring a small army of helpers to clean, sort, and prepare the mountains of fresh produce. Chef Baci plans to use 250 bags of rice, aiming to fill the giant pot to 80% of its capacity and create enough jollof rice to feed approximately 10,000 people.
More than just a bid for another Guinness World Record, the event is a massive act of community service. All of the food cooked during this culinary marathon will be shared with attendees and donated to charitable causes, ensuring the record attempt leaves a lasting impact far beyond the celebration.
