Former Strasbourg Boss Signs Until 2032, Vowing to Protect Club’s “Unique Spirit” and Win Trophies
Chelsea have officially appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, handing the 41-year-old a long-term contract until 2032 to succeed the departed Enzo Maresca.
Rosenior arrives from French side Strasbourg, a club within the BlueCo multi-club structure, making him a familiar and strategically aligned choice for Chelsea’s hierarchy. He will take charge after this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic, with interim boss Calum McFarlane remaining in the dugout for Wednesday’s Premier League derby at Fulham.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured,” Rosenior said in his first statement as Chelsea boss. “This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies. My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play.”
The appointment followed a whirlwind weekend of negotiations. Rosenior flew to London on Sunday after Strasbourg’s match against Nice for face-to-face talks, before returning to France to bid farewell to his former club in an emotional press conference.
Defending his mid-season departure, Rosenior stated, “If PSG, Real Madrid or Barcelona came in for me, would it still be seen as disrespectful? That’s the business of football.”
At Chelsea, he inherits a squad that showed resilience in a 1-1 draw at Manchester City but has struggled for consistency this season. Rosenior emphasized a philosophy built on “teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another,” adding, “I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent.”
The club will hope his blend of tactical modernism and strong man-management can stabilize the project and reignite their push for Champions League football, as the Rosenior era begins at Stamford Bridge.
