Blues Beat Bayern Munich to Agree Personal Terms With Dortmund Starlet
Chelsea are on the verge of completing their biggest signing of the summer after reaching a personal agreement with Borussia Dortmund’s rising star Jamie Gittens, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 20-year-old English winger has reportedly agreed to a staggering seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032, with negotiations now focused on finalizing a transfer fee with Dortmund.
The Blues have already invested €115 million in five new additions this window, but securing Gittens – once a Manchester City academy prospect – would represent a major coup for manager Enzo Maresca. Despite late interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, sources indicate Gittens has his heart set on a Chelsea move and won’t entertain other offers while the London club remain in talks.
A Transfer Saga With Twists
Dortmund initially rebuffed Chelsea’s approach earlier this month, determined to keep Gittens for their Club World Cup campaign. However, the German club have since softened their stance, lowering their asking price from €65m to €60m – still slightly below the player’s €68m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).
The deal would shatter Chelsea’s current summer transfer record, eclipsing the €35m spent to bring Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. Gittens’ potential arrival signals Chelsea’s commitment to building around young talent, with the England U21 international viewed as a cornerstone for Maresca’s long-term project.
Romano emphasized Chelsea’s determination: “They keep advancing on this deal and consider Gittens a priority target.” With personal terms already settled, all eyes now turn to whether Chelsea can finalize negotiations with Dortmund in the coming days. Should they succeed, it would mark a significant statement of intent ahead of the new Premier League season.
