A Clinical Blues Performance Deepens the Eagles’ Winless Run as Rosenior Makes History
Chelsea deepened Crystal Palace’s struggles on Monday, securing a straightforward 3-1 Premier League win at Selhurst Park. The result extends Chelsea’s remarkable unbeaten streak against the Eagles to 18 matches, while Palace’s painful run without a win grows to 11 games across all competitions.
The home side started brightly, with Jean-Philippe Mateta forcing a sharp save from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez early on. But Chelsea gradually took control, and a costly mistake just after the half-hour mark handed them the lead. Defender Jaydee Canvot’s misplaced pass was pounced on by Chelsea’s young Brazilian star Estêvão, who raced clear and fired confidently past Dean Henderson.
Any hope of a Palace fightback was quickly extinguished after the break. Just five minutes into the second half, Estêvão turned provider, slipping a clever ball through for João Pedro. The forward cut inside with ease and powered his finish through Henderson’s legs to double the lead.
Chelsea’s third came from the penalty spot after Canvot handled Pedro’s goal-bound shot. Enzo Fernández stepped up and converted calmly, putting the game out of reach.
Palace’s frustrations boiled over when midfielder Adam Wharton received two yellow cards in quick succession, reducing his side to ten men for the final stages. A late consolation from defender Chris Richards gave the home fans a moment to cheer, but it did little to mask another disappointing performance.
For Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior, the win marks a personal milestone—he becomes the first English manager since Steven Gerrard in 2021 to win his first two Premier League matches in charge of a club. The victory also lifts Chelsea into fourth place in the table.
For Crystal Palace and manager Oliver Glasner, however, the search for a turnaround grows more urgent with each passing week.
