Chelsea Eyes January Striker Move, with Samu Omorodion in the Spotlight

The Blues look to bolster their attack despite Jackson’s promising start; Omorodion emerges as top target

Chelsea continues to explore options for a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window, keeping an eye on promising talents despite Nicolas Jackson’s encouraging start to the season. The club had closely monitored several players over the summer, with near-deals falling through for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Since then, both players have found new opportunities: Omorodion transferred to Porto, and Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan.

While Osimhen’s experience might appeal to Chelsea fans, manager Enzo Maresca appears to be focused on securing Omorodion, according to Fichajes. The 20-year-old Spanish striker has gained attention since his €15 million move to Porto, where his recent performance against Manchester United in a thrilling 3-3 Europa League match has boosted his profile. Originally linked with an €80 million move to Chelsea, Omorodion’s current release clause stands at €100 million—a sum Chelsea may consider if they decide to pursue him.

Omorodion’s commitment to Porto is evident, with Fichajes reporting that he is “very happy” and isn’t currently considering a transfer. However, an enticing offer from Chelsea in January could change his stance, especially with the allure of joining a winning project in the Premier League.

Despite his lower profile compared to other stars in the Portuguese league, Omorodion has scored an impressive 11 goals in 11 appearances, including a brace against Manchester United. Meanwhile, Osimhen has netted four goals and contributed three assists in seven matches for Galatasaray.

Chelsea seems determined not to miss out on Omorodion again, with Maresca reportedly “insisting” on making a renewed push for the young striker.
