Chelsea Face Race Against Time to Land Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez

Blues told to accelerate last-ditch pursuit as Spanish giants set a steep €70 million price tag for the coveted midfielder.

With the transfer clock ticking down, Chelsea have been put on red alert: they must drastically accelerate negotiations if they hope to pry midfielder Fermín López away from Barcelona before the deadline. The 22-year-old Spaniard has emerged as a primary target for manager Enzo Maresca after the club missed out on other prospects, but a deal remains far from certain.

According to reports from Spain’s Mundo Deportivo, the West London club must act swiftly in the final hours of the window to have any chance of securing the player. This sense of urgency comes despite Chelsea having already tested the waters with an initial offer of €40 million last week.

That bid, however, falls dramatically short of Barcelona’s valuation. The Catalan club has reportedly told Chelsea they will not even consider a sale unless a bid of at least €70 million arrives—a figure that would make Fermín Chelsea’s most expensive signing of the summer.

Complicating matters further is the player’s own stance. Despite having played a limited role in Barcelona’s opening league games, Fermín is understood to be keen on staying and fighting for his place at the Camp Nou, where he is highly regarded by manager Hansi Flick. As an academy graduate with four years left on his contract, Barcelona holds a strong position in any negotiations.

The message to Chelsea is clear: if they are serious about this deadline day shock, they must not only table a colossal bid but do so in a matter of hours.
