Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, joining London rivals Arsenal and other European giants in pursuit of the Atalanta star.

According to football journalist Sacha Tovalieri, Chelsea are already in contact with Lookman’s representatives as they prepare to launch a bid for the forward at the end of the current season. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring Lookman’s situation closely.

Atalanta Resigned to Departure

Atalanta, who have enjoyed Lookman’s stellar performances this season, are reportedly resigned to losing him and have set an asking price of €50 million for the Nigerian star. Lookman’s reputation soared earlier this year after his stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final, where Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to secure their first-ever European trophy.

Since then, the 26-year-old has continued to shine, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists this season to help Atalanta climb to the top of Serie A. Lookman currently leads the league in combined goals and assists across all competitions in 2024.

Summer Drama and PSG Interest

Lookman’s growing profile also attracted Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last summer. Reports claim the French giants agreed personal terms with the forward on a lucrative deal worth €5 million per year until 2029. In the final days of the transfer window, Lookman expressed his desire to leave for PSG, leaving Atalanta frustrated and briefly out of their squad for the season opener.

The transfer eventually fell through, and Lookman returned to Atalanta, where he has continued to deliver exceptional performances.

Premier League Giants Circle

With his impressive form, Lookman is now on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Arsenal, who have shown longstanding interest in the forward, are believed to be leading the race, but Chelsea’s growing involvement adds intrigue to what could be a competitive transfer battle.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also keeping tabs on the Nigerian international, as his stock continues to rise across Europe.

With Atalanta prepared to cash in next summer, the battle for Ademola Lookman’s signature is set to intensify in the coming months.
