Blues Agree £40 Million Move for Geovany Quenda and £19 Million for Dario Essugo in Youth Recruitment Drive

Chelsea’s ambitious youth recruitment strategy continues to make headlines as the club confirms a second deal with Sporting CP, following the signing of highly-rated teenager Geovany Quenda. The Blues have reportedly agreed to a £40 million deal for the 17-year-old starlet, who will remain at Sporting for the 2025-26 season before officially joining Chelsea in the summer of 2026.

Quenda, who has drawn comparisons to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, has been a standout under Sporting manager Ruben Amorim this season. Known for his defensive work rate and versatility, the young talent has attracted interest from top clubs, including Manchester United. However, Chelsea have won the race for his signature, with the player set to sign a seven-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

Fabio Roque, Quenda’s former coach at Sporting’s academy, praised the youngster’s unique qualities, saying, “He is so committed in defensive moments and covers huge spaces on the field. Geo reminds me of Bukayo Saka in the early stages of his career. There is only one Geovany Quenda—he’s different from any other player I’ve trained.”

But Chelsea’s transfer activity doesn’t stop there. The Blues have also secured a deal for 20-year-old midfielder Dario Essugo, currently on loan at Las Palmas. The £19 million move will see Essugo join Chelsea at the end of the season, where he is expected to sign a seven-year contract. Essugo has made 17 appearances for Las Palmas this season, scoring one goal and showcasing his potential as a dynamic midfield presence.

These signings highlight Chelsea’s commitment to building for the future, with Quenda and Essugo joining a growing list of young talents at Stamford Bridge. The club has already secured deals for other rising stars, including Estevao Willian, set to join in 2025, and Lamine Yamal, further solidifying their reputation as a hub for the next generation of footballing talent.

The only question now is how quickly these promising players can make their mark in the Premier League.
