Chelsea’s Pursuit of Napoli Striker Osimhen Faces Obstacles as PSG Beckons

Manager Enzo Maresca Eager to Secure Nigerian Ace Before Transfer Window Closes

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is determined to bring Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes. However, the Premier League club may have missed their opportunity to sign the Nigerian forward as he appears to prefer a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Osimhen, 25, has been at the center of a protracted transfer saga involving top clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and PSG. Napoli’s hefty release clause, reportedly around €120-130 million, has been a significant deterrent. Despite the high asking price, there are indications it could be lowered in the final days of the transfer window.

Chelsea had initially cooled their interest but reignited their pursuit of Osimhen with weeks left in the summer transfer window. The Blues see him as a vital addition to their center-forward lineup, which includes Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu. Meanwhile, a failed move for Samu Omorodion has left the club in need of a new striker, putting midfielder Conor Gallagher’s future in doubt.

“Victor Osimhen is keen on leaving Napoli and wants his transfer finalized before Deadline Day,” Florian Plettenberg told Sky Sports. “His agent is exploring various options, but Osimhen has expressed a strong preference for joining PSG. This stance has been clearly communicated to Napoli and his representatives.”

PSG’s interest in Osimhen is complicated by their current roster, which includes high-profile forwards Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos. Despite this, Chelsea is actively negotiating with Osimhen’s agent and remains hopeful of convincing him to choose Stamford Bridge over PSG.

Chelsea now faces a trio of challenges: securing the necessary funds, having their bid accepted by Napoli, and persuading Osimhen that a move to London is more advantageous than one to Paris.
