Dominant first-half display sees Haaland, Semenyo and O’Reilly on target as champions apply pressure
Manchester City turned on the style in a torrential downpour at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, sweeping aside Fulham 3-0 to move within three points of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The champions delivered a devastating first-half performance that left the visitors soaked and shell-shocked. Antoine Semenyo opened the floodgates before Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland added further goals, ensuring the points were effectively wrapped up by half-time.
The only sour note came when Fulham’s Kenny Tete appeared to pull Semenyo’s hair during a first-half tussle. The incident went unpunished after a VAR check, with officials ruling there wasn’t enough clear evidence to take action.
The second half was a far quieter affair, with City professionally seeing out a victory that piles the pressure on Arsenal ahead of their trip to Brentford on Thursday. Mikel Arteta’s side know that anything less than a win at the Gtech Community Stadium will see their advantage shrink further.
For now, the gap is down to three points. The title race, it seems, is very much alive.
