A Zambian court has sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment with option for marriage after sleeping with a mentally challenged woman four years ago.
The suspect, identified as Edwin Sakala was arrested in March 2019 following reports from residents that he had been having sex with the woman in Masala, whom he would allegedly drag into his apartment at night and release in the morning.
A source told Zambian eagle; “the man has been dragging her into his apartment late nights and bring her out early mornings.”
After neighbours caught him in the act, he was arraigned before the Masala police and later convicted by a judge.
However, he was given the option of marrying the woman.
Meanwhile, an Enugu Magistrate Court has ordered a lady to pay N150,000 in damages to a man who sued her for not honouring an agreement.
The woman had collected N3,000 from the man for transport to visit him, but she failed to show up, prompting him to take legal action against her for obtaining money under false pretenses.
The court awarded the damages against the woman as a deterrent to others. The case was shared on Twitter by a lawyer known as @egi_nupe.
He wrote; “A court in Enugu has reportedly set a good precedent by awarding damages of 150k against a lady. She was given 3k as transport fare to visit a guy and after collecting the money, she switched off her phone and refused to visit him. Infuriated by her action, he reported and sued her for deceit.
In the judgement, the magistrate held that the lady’s action was deceitful and awarded the sum of 150k against her to serve as deterrence to others with such deceitful behavior.”
