Cristiano Ronaldo Commits Future to Al-Nassr with New Two-Year Deal

Portugal icon extends stay in Saudi Arabia, silencing transfer rumors and aiming for elusive silverware

Cristiano Ronaldo has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract with Al-Nassr, keeping him at the Saudi Pro League club until 2027. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, whose previous deal was set to expire this month, has opted to continue his Middle Eastern journey despite swirling rumors of a potential exit.

The 40-year-old fueled transfer talk in May with a cryptic social media post—”This chapter is over”—after Al-Nassr’s final league match. The message sparked intense speculation, with rivals Al-Hilal reportedly eyeing a move to secure his services for the upcoming Club World Cup. Brazilian side Botafogo also emerged as surprise contenders, but Ronaldo turned down the opportunity to remain loyal to Al-Nassr.

Since joining the Riyadh-based club in January 2023 following his abrupt Manchester United departure, Ronaldo has been in sensational form, netting 93 goals in just 105 appearances. Yet, despite his prolific scoring, he has been unable to deliver a major trophy—a void he will be eager to fill in the coming seasons.

Next term, Ronaldo will work under a new manager after Al-Nassr dismissed Stefano Pioli following a trophyless 2024-25 campaign. The club finished third in the league and suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Champions League semifinals.

Now settled in Saudi Arabia with his family, Ronaldo has chosen stability over a potential return to Europe or a high-profile switch within the league. As he approaches his 42nd birthday at the end of this new deal, the football legend remains as determined as ever to add more silverware to his historic career.
