D’banj Reveals Don Jazzy Was 100% Responsible for Mo’Hits Breakup

In a candid podcast interview, the singer finally addresses the split that shocked the Nigerian music scene, stating the idea to part ways came solely from his former partner.

In a long-awaited revelation, popular singer D’banj has officially set the record straight on the breakup of the legendary music group Mo’Hits, placing the responsibility for the 2012 split squarely on his partner, ace producer Don Jazzy.

For over a decade, fans have speculated about the reasons behind the dissolution of one of Nigeria’s most iconic music partnerships. Speaking on the recent episode of the Mic On podcast, D’banj offered his most direct account yet, confirming it was Don Jazzy who initiated their separation.

“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently,” D’banj told host Seun Okinbaloye. “Especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent.”

Despite the pain of the split, D’banj highlighted there is no lingering animosity, partly due to Don Jazzy’s gracious handling of their shared work. He revealed that his former partner gave him full ownership of his solo catalogue from that era.

“And that’s why we have no issue,” D’banj continued. “Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released.”

The “Koko Master” admitted that he sometimes misses their creative synergy but sees their journey as predestined. He pointed to the massive global success of “Oliver Twist”—the last song they released together—as a sign that their mission was ultimately accomplished.

“It was a journey for me,” he reflected. “I knew that we needed to cement that global movement and I’m glad that even after, God still did it for us.”

With this revelation, D’banj provides a sense of closure to a chapter that forever changed the landscape of Afrobeats, confirming that the end of Mo’Hits was not a conflict, but a conclusion chosen by one and accepted by the other.
