Football Director Points to Injury Returns as Key, Backs Flick Amid Speculation
In a clear statement of transfer intent, Barcelona director of football Deco has indicated the club does not plan major January signings, instead backing the current squad and returning injured players to address their challenges.
Speaking at the club’s homecoming event at Spotify Camp Nou, Deco presented a calm front when questioned about winter reinforcements. “If we are doing well and there are no surprises, I don’t think it’s necessary,” he stated, emphasizing faith in the existing group.
Deco instead highlighted the return of key injured players as Barcelona’s most significant boost, noting the team had already shown its potential when at full strength. “We need to have the best players,” he said, pointing to injuries as a major factor in the team’s recent struggles.
The director’s comments come alongside a firm endorsement of manager Hansi Flick’s project. “We are a little too strict,” Deco noted, defending the German’s philosophy and achievements. “The only thing that cannot be disputed is the idea of a coach who won what he won.”
While acknowledging the need for improvement, Deco drew confidence from last season’s ability to navigate tough periods, suggesting Barcelona would once again “overcome difficulties” through stability rather than splashy January signings.
