Eddie Howe Breaks Silence on Alexander Isak’s Newcastle Future Amid Exit Rumors

Magpies Boss Admits “Difficult Situation” as Star Striker Ponders Future While Recovering From Injury

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has opened up about Alexander Isak’s uncertain future at the club, admitting the Swedish striker is facing a “not easy” situation as speculation over a potential summer exit intensifies.

The 25-year-old forward, who reportedly asked to explore a move away from St James’ Park, did not join Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a thigh injury – though Howe had previously stated he would “absolutely” be part of the traveling squad. With Liverpool maintaining interest and Saudi club Al Hilal offering a staggering £600,000-per-week wage, the Magpies boss acknowledged the delicate nature of the situation.

“There are things going on behind the scenes,” Howe told reporters in Singapore. “He’s in the news every day and I’m sure that’s not easy for anyone in that situation. We share a really good relationship – he’s been magnificent for us since he joined and is very popular in the dressing room.”

Howe emphasized that Newcastle remain in a strong position, with Isak contracted until 2028 and the club financially stable. “Whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle,” he stated. “We’re determined to be successful, ambitious, and we’ve got a great season ahead. We need to continue improving the squad.”

The manager revealed there are currently no contract talks underway with Isak, suggesting any discussions about his long-term future would come later. “I don’t see anything that’s going to change my opinion that he’ll stay,” Howe added, while acknowledging the unpredictable nature of football. “Who knows what the future may bring?”
