Reds’ 5-1 Triumph Over Frankfurt Marred by Fresh Injury Concerns for Slot
In a stunning return to form, Liverpool FC emphatically ended their four-game losing streak with a commanding 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League. The Anfield faithful were treated to a goal-fest, with five different players finding the net for Arne Slot’s side.
The match featured a poignant moment as former Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike was among the scorers, rounding out a dominant team performance. In a strategic move, manager Arne Slot opted to rest talisman Mohamed Salah, starting the Egyptian forward on the bench.
However, the celebratory mood was tempered by significant injury worries. Two key starters, Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong, were forced off the pitch, casting a shadow over the impressive win.
Slot provided immediate updates on the pair, expressing particular concern. Isak, who has been managed carefully since his arrival, felt a tweak in his groin and was substituted at halftime.
“Alex went close a few times but had to go off at half-time,” Slot explained. “That’s the difficult balance we’re having with him. We felt he was at a point where he could play twice a week, but the first time we try, he has to go off. I’m hoping this isn’t a bad one, because being out for a few weeks would set him back a lot.”
The situation with Frimpong appears more severe. The defender, who had only just returned from a hamstring issue, suffered a fresh blow to the same hamstring in the first half.
“I expect Jeremie to definitely be out now for a few weeks,” Slot admitted, his frustration evident. “It’s not really helpful, with Alisson and Giovanni Leoni already out. He only just came back, played for his national team, and now this has happened. It’s a real shame.”
The Reds must now regroup quickly as they face a busy schedule, traveling to Brentford for a Premier League clash before a midweek Carabao Cup showdown against Crystal Palace.
