Victory at Villa Park Lifts Team to Second, But Boss Keeps Focus on Next Challenge at Palace
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has challenged his players to build a fresh winning streak after they responded to a heavy defeat at Arsenal with a convincing 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The win, Villa’s 11th consecutive triumph at Villa Park, helped the team leapfrog Manchester City into second place in the Premier League and quickly banish the memory of the midweek loss that ended their 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions.
“The players responded fantastically to the demands we set,” a pleased Emery said after the match. “We needed rest and work to get ready, and we dominated with our possession, positioning, and mentality to keep our momentum.”
Despite the impressive league position, Emery was quick to shift focus away from the title race and onto the immediate task ahead: a difficult trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
“This is a challenge, and to beat Palace is very difficult,” he stated. “We want to win lots of matches in a row, but it is difficult. Our challenge is the next match, not how we will finish. Our target is to be in Europe.”
With Arsenal three points ahead but having played one fewer game, Emery’s pragmatic approach underscores a season-long philosophy of taking each game as it comes. For now, Villa’s remarkable home form provides the foundation as they aim to cement their place among the league’s elite.
