“The Death of Slim Shady” Set to Drop on July 12
Rapper Eminem has revealed the release date for his 12th studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” which will be available on July 12.
Eminem, 51, announced the news in classic Slim Shady fashion with a shocking trailer on his social media accounts. The short clip features a woman giving birth to a demon baby that isn’t breathing until a doctor hits it to wake it up. The baby then opens its completely black eyes, grows a long tongue and horns, while onlookers exclaim “Holy s**t.”
He captioned the video, “OH S**T!!! THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRÂCE) 7/12!!!”
This announcement comes just before the release of the album’s second single, “Tobey,” featuring Big Sean and Babytron, set to drop on July 2. The song is believed to be named after Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire. Eminem, a long-time Marvel fan, has referenced the superhero universe in previous songs. In “Tobey,” he raps, “Tobey Maguire got hit by a Spider, but me, see it was a goat.”
The first single from the album, “Houdini,” debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Eminem’s highest-ranking single in over a decade. However, the track drew criticism for seemingly making fun of Megan Thee Stallion, who was shot in the foot in 2020. In the first verse, Eminem raps, “If I was to ask Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me would I really have a shot at a feat?” Here, “feat” is a play on “featuring” and a homophone for “feet.”
