England 1-0 Croatia: Sterling gives Southgate’s men the perfect start

Raheem Sterling scored the all-important winning goal for England in their Euro 2020 opener at Wembley against Croatia.

The Three Lions started the game really brightly. They almost took the lead in the sixth minute but Phil Foden’s effort ricocheted away off the post.

England were much the better side for the first 25 minutes, but Croatia did finish the first half well.

There was a slow start to the second half until England took the lead in the 57th minute. Kalvin Phillips impressed all afternoon and he was at the forefront for the goal.

The Leeds man dribbled past his markers before he laid it off to Sterling. The forward made no mistake as his first-time effort from inside the area found the net.
