Enzo Maresca Bids Emotional Farewell to Chelsea Fans After Abrupt Exit

Departing Boss Thanks Supporters and Players, Says He Leaves Club “Where It Deserves To Be”

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has penned an emotional farewell to the club’s supporters, expressing gratitude and a sense of fulfillment after his 18-month tenure ended abruptly on New Year’s Day.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, the Italian reflected on a successful spell that saw Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, while also securing a return to the Champions League.

Enzo Maresca leaves with his head held high.

“My journey with Chelsea began with the preliminary rounds of the Conference League,” Maresca wrote. “I leave with the inner peace of leaving a prestigious club like Chelsea where it deserves to be.”

He extended special thanks to the fans and players, acknowledging their role in the club’s recent achievements. “I want to thank all the Chelsea fans for their support over the last 18 months,” he added. “Support that was crucial to achieving Champions League qualification, winning the Conference League, and winning the Club World Cup.”

Maresca’s departure followed a sharp downturn in form, with just one win in seven Premier League games reportedly exacerbating existing tensions with the club’s board. He was replaced on an interim basis by Under-21s coach Calum McFarlane before Chelsea confirmed the permanent appointment of Liam Rosenior on Tuesday.

Despite the sudden nature of his exit, Maresca’s message struck a tone of closure and appreciation, wishing “everyone who has shared every moment with me every success in this second half of the season and in the future.”
