Top Executives Convene as Speculation Surrounding Ten Hag’s Role Grows
Erik ten Hag remains Manchester United’s manager following a series of key meetings held at Old Trafford on Monday. The club’s co-owners, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer, along with chief executive Omar Berrada, Ineos head of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, and Gary Neville, who is part of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, were present throughout the day to discuss the Dutch manager’s future.
The group, including sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox, is scheduled to continue discussions today at an executive committee meeting in London. Speculation about Ten Hag’s position intensified as images surfaced of the executives leaving Old Trafford, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future.
According to Football Insider, first-team coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly interested in replacing Ten Hag if an offer is made.
The Guardian further suggests he could be considered as an interim appointment, with his desire for a permanent role possibly influencing that decision.
Meanwhile, MEN Sport reports that former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is also under consideration as a full-time replacement for Ten Hag. This would negate the need for an interim solution, as United have previously experimented with interim managers such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, and Ralf Rangnick—all of which failed to provide long-term stability.
In addition to the managerial uncertainty, production companies such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix have reportedly approached Manchester United about creating a behind-the-scenes documentary, according to The Sun. However, discussions are not currently ongoing, as United’s leadership focuses on more immediate priorities under the potential influence of Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s involvement with the club.
As Manchester United navigates this tumultuous period, the future of Ten Hag remains a topic of intense speculation, with possible replacements already emerging.
