Star Striker Signs Nine-and-a-Half-Year Deal, Silencing Transfer Speculations
Erling Haaland has cemented his long-term future with Manchester City by signing an extraordinary nine-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034.
Despite recent speculation linking the prolific Norwegian striker with potential moves to Real Madrid or Barcelona, Haaland’s new deal dispels all doubts about his commitment to the Premier League champions.
A Historic Commitment
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Haaland’s previous contract, set to expire in June 2027, has been replaced with an improved agreement that removes all previous release clauses. While the financial specifics were not disclosed, the deal is reportedly “among the most lucrative sporting contracts ever.”
Haaland, who has netted 21 goals in 28 appearances this season, expressed his excitement in a club statement:
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special place, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters. It’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”
The 23-year-old also praised manager Pep Guardiola and the club’s staff, adding:

The new contract follows a wave of rumors suggesting Haaland’s discontent with Manchester City’s underwhelming title defense this season. Plagued by key injuries, including to Rodri, City currently sit sixth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Nonetheless, Haaland’s renewed commitment signals a strong vote of confidence in the club’s long-term vision.

The Athletic’s Sam Lee highlighted the significance of this agreement, noting that Haaland’s new contract positions him as the central figure in City’s plans for the next decade.
“When Haaland signed in 2022, many expected he might move to another European giant after a few years. But this deal firmly establishes him as the cornerstone of Manchester City, likely outlasting Guardiola, his teammates, and even some club executives. It is his City now.”
As Manchester City looks to regain form and climb the Premier League table, Haaland’s decision to stay signals stability and ambition for years to come.
