Ex-Manchester United Manager Erik ten Hag Heads to Holland After Dismissal

The Dutch coach was spotted leaving quietly after his sacking as United turns to Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim manager

Erik ten Hag has been spotted for the first time since his dismissal as Manchester United manager, concealing himself in the back seat of a black Mercedes as he headed home to the Netherlands. His departure follows United’s recent 2-1 loss to West Ham United, leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League and marking a low point in a challenging season.

Ten Hag’s exit was confirmed on Monday after a season that, while including an FA Cup victory, saw United struggle domestically and finish a disappointing eighth in the league. Rumors of his dismissal had circulated even before the FA Cup final win against Manchester City, with club leadership reportedly considering a change regardless of the outcome. United’s recent statement expressed gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions: “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

Taking over the managerial duties temporarily is former United striker and Ten Hag’s assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy. This will be van Nistelrooy’s first game at the helm as interim manager, with his debut match set for Wednesday against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Ten Hag’s legacy includes two domestic trophies, the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. However, the former Ajax manager is now headed back to Holland, leaving United to regroup under new leadership.
