Eze Savors Special First Arsenal Goal as Arteta Demands More

The £60m signing opened his account for the Gunners in a hard-fought cup win, with his manager praising his performance while insisting there’s “a lot more to give.”

Eberechi Eze described scoring his first goal for Arsenal as a “very special” moment after helping his boyhood club secure a 2-0 victory over Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

The attacking midfielder, who returned to Arsenal in a £60 million move from Crystal Palace this summer, broke the deadlock in the first half by calmly slotting home from inside the box. The goal came with Eze playing in his preferred central role, before substitute Leandro Trossard sealed the win late on.

“Very special. I’ve been waiting to score for this club for a long time and the first is very special,” a delighted Eze said after the match. Acknowledging the challenge of facing a disciplined League One side, he added, “It’s important we got the first goal and we could move forward.”

While thrilled with the debut goal, manager Mikel Arteta balanced his praise with a clear challenge for his new star. He acknowledged Eze’s sharpness for the goal and several other promising attacks but pointed out that better understanding with his teammates will lead to even greater rewards.

“He needs to still play more time a little bit with those guys to understand the timings,” Arteta explained. “In general, very good. There is still a lot more to give I think.”

The manager was even more direct about his expectations, stating plainly, “That’s why we got him, to win football matches. He should have scored another two I think.”

The victory sets up an enticing fourth-round clash at the Emirates Stadium against fellow Premier League side Brighton. In other draw news, League Two Grimsby Town, having already knocked out Manchester United, will host Brentford as they continue their giant-killing cup run.
