Renowned Human Rights Lawyer Responds to Viral Claims Made by Social Media Critic VeryDarkMan
Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has categorically denied allegations of involvement with popular crossdresser Bobrisky, following claims made by social media personality Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan. The accusations, which have sparked widespread attention online, suggest that Falana played a role in securing favors for Bobrisky in exchange for money.
The controversy erupted after VeryDarkMan released a viral video alleging that unnamed EFCC officers accepted ₦15 million from Bobrisky to drop money laundering charges. Furthermore, he claimed that Falana sought a ₦10 million payment in return for fast-tracking a presidential pardon for the crossdresser.
Falana addressed the allegations on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he firmly denied any involvement, stating, “Bobrisky never spoke to me. I have never met him, I don’t know him.” He clarified that Bobrisky had reached out to his son, Folarin Falana (Falz), seeking assistance to secure a VIP prison section by offering ₦3 million. However, Falz declined, advising Bobrisky to follow proper procedures through prison authorities.
Falana emphasized that his son has never negotiated on behalf of anyone and noted that his children typically refer individuals in need of legal help to him. Despite the defamatory accusations, Falana has opted not to file a criminal complaint, citing his role in a West African campaign to decriminalize freedom of expression.
Instead, Falana revealed plans to pursue civil action to restore both his and his son’s integrity. “We are not going to file a criminal complaint… we will embark on civil proceedings with a view to restoring our integrity, my own name, and that of my son,” he stated.
The viral video has continued to circulate, but Falana remains resolute in his decision to clear his name through legal means.
