Sir Alex Ferguson Backs United’s Revival, Hails “Outstanding” New Keeper Lammens

The legendary former manager breaks his silence to voice optimism about the team’s progress under Amorim and singles out a summer signing for special praise.

In a significant show of support, Sir Alex Ferguson has publicly endorsed the new era at Manchester United, expressing genuine optimism about the team’s improving form and lavishing praise on summer signing Senne Lammens, whom he described as “outstanding.”

Senne Lammens

The iconic former manager, whose opinion carries immense weight at Old Trafford, broke his customary silence on club affairs while attending a horse racing event in Bahrain. His comments come as United ride a five-match unbeaten run under manager Ruben Amorim, a spell that has injected hope after last season’s struggles.

“There are signs, the manager has had some good signs,” Ferguson told Raceday RTV. “Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.”

Ferguson also acknowledged the impact of other new arrivals, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, before stressing the club’s eternal need for success. “I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success – the signs are getting better,” he stated, while also reminding that “back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect.”

The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lammens, a £21.7 million signing from Royal Antwerp, has yet to lose a match in his five appearances. His promising start is a validation of the club’s scouting department, led by a familiar face.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, recently revealed that former goalkeeping coach Tony Coton—who worked under Ferguson for a decade—was “relentless” in recommending Lammens for a full year before the club finalized the deal.

With the blessing of the club’s most successful ever manager and a key signing already making his mark, there is a growing belief that United’s patient rebuild under Amorim is finally moving in the right direction.
