Football Gossip: Real Madrid Stars Reportedly Rebel Against New Coach Alvaro Arbeloa

Players express frustration over tactics and training methods mere weeks after the sacking of Xabi Alonso.

Just weeks after the departure of Xabi Alonso, unrest is already brewing at Real Madrid as key players have reportedly turned against his successor, Alvaro Arbeloa. The former Castilla coach, who was appointed on an interim basis until the summer, is facing significant internal criticism over his management style and tactical decisions.

The discontent emerged following a mixed run of six games, which included four wins but also a damaging Copa del Rey defeat to Albacete. According to reports from Spanish radio, senior figures in the squad feel little has improved since Alonso’s exit.

“Some players we spoke with expected more from the coaching change,” journalist Anton Meana told Cadena SER. “They say it’s about working without complaining, but they’re living as if they’re being trained like the Castilla team. There’s no tactical change.”

Further frustrations have surfaced regarding team selection, particularly the repeated use of midfielder Eduardo Camavinga at left-back, even when natural full-backs Fran García and Álvaro Carreras are available. This policy, which began under former manager Carlo Ancelotti, has reportedly caused friction, with Cadena COPE’s Miguel Ángel Díaz revealing it contributed to Fran García’s desire to leave the club in the recent transfer window.

García was close to a move to Bournemouth, having even said goodbye to teammates, before club president Florentino Pérez intervened to block the transfer.

As Real Madrid prepare for their Sunday clash against Valencia, scrutiny over Arbeloa’s leadership has intensified. The coming matches will test whether the interim coach can regain the confidence of a star-studded and dissatisfied dressing room.
