Victor Osimhen
Napoli striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray, draws attention from top European clubs ahead of winter window.
Victor Osimhen’s stellar form on loan at Galatasaray has reportedly caught the attention of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Manchester United, with all three clubs preparing bids for the Nigerian striker in January. According to Il Mattino, the forward could become a key transfer target as teams look to bolster their attacking options mid-season.
A Sought-After Talent
The 25-year-old has been a standout performer since joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, netting 10 goals in just 13 appearances. Despite his impressive start in Turkey, his future remains uncertain, with Napoli reportedly willing to sell him to fund reinforcements for their Serie A campaign.
Osimhen’s loan deal with Galatasaray is a “dry loan,” meaning there is no option for a permanent transfer, though the Turkish giants are covering his €10 million salary until June. Galatasaray is keen to keep him but is unlikely to afford his reported €75 million release clause, which becomes active in January.
Why the Interest?
The striker’s situation has piqued the interest of several European heavyweights:
- Juventus: Struggling in sixth place in Serie A, the Bianconeri are desperate for reinforcements. With only one fit striker, Dusan Vlahovic, who has underperformed this season, Juventus sees Osimhen as a potential solution to their attacking woes.
- Paris Saint-Germain: Luis Enrique’s side faces challenges in the Champions League and lacks a clinical number nine. PSG views Osimhen as the caliber of player needed to compete with Europe’s elite.
- Manchester United: In 13th place in the Premier League, the Red Devils have struggled offensively, with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to deliver consistent performances. United is exploring Osimhen as a potential fix for their goal-scoring issues.
Napoli’s Plan
Napoli appears open to parting ways with Osimhen to fund reinforcements. The Italian club reportedly aims to use the proceeds to sign Lecce’s Parick Dorgu, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, and a midfielder—possibly Empoli’s Jacopo Fazzini.
The relationship between Osimhen and Napoli has been strained since last season, following a controversial TikTok incident where the club’s social media mocked his penalty miss against Bologna. Despite being instrumental in Napoli’s 2022-23 Scudetto-winning campaign, scoring 26 goals in 32 games, Osimhen was frozen out under new manager Antonio Conte and opted to join Galatasaray to avoid training alone.
While Napoli might prefer a January sale, Osimhen could see out the season in Turkey. For now, his performances at Galatasaray are keeping Europe’s top clubs on high alert, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster transfer when the winter window opens.
