Brazilian Star Reportedly Seeks New Contract After Previously Considering Departure
Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has reversed course on his future and now wants to renew his contract with the club following the departure of manager Xabi Alonso, according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central.
The 25-year-old Brazilian, whose current deal runs until 2027, had previously informed the club that he would not sign an extension unless his relationship with Alonso improved. That obstacle was removed on Monday when Alonso was sacked and replaced by youth coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
In response, Vinícius has reportedly concluded that “being a Real Madrid player is the best thing that has ever happened to him” and is now keen to commit his long-term future to the Bernabéu. However, negotiations are not yet finalized, with the club said to be hesitant about meeting his salary expectations.
The decision comes after months of intense speculation linking Vinícius with a blockbuster move. Premier League sides Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea were all rumored to be interested, while Saudi Pro League clubs were also prepared to make a substantial offer this summer.
Now, with Alonso gone and Vinícius apparently settled on staying, Real Madrid have a clearer path to secure one of their star players for years to come—provided the financial terms can be agreed.
