Former Arsenal Star Thomas Partey to Face Court Over Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Ghanaian midfielder denies all allegations as legal battle begins

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to appear in court on Tuesday, facing serious charges of rape and sexual assault involving three women. The 32-year-old, who recently left the North London club after his contract expired, has been accused of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with the alleged offenses occurring between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, who lives in Hertfordshire, is accused of raping two women—two counts involving one woman and three counts involving another—while the sexual assault charge relates to a third alleged victim. The Metropolitan Police first received reports of a rape allegation in February 2022, though the case has only now reached the courts.

The Ghana international, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in a £45 million deal in 2020, has strongly denied all charges. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, said Partey “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name” after what has been a lengthy legal process.

Partey was a key player for Arsenal last season, making 35 Premier League appearances and scoring four goals before his departure in June. He also boasts an extensive career in Spain, having played 188 games for Atlético Madrid, along with loan spells at Mallorca and Leganés. Internationally, he has earned over 50 caps for Ghana, featuring in both the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

Arsenal, where Partey spent four years, declined to comment on the case, citing ongoing legal proceedings. The club confirmed only that his contract had ended as scheduled on June 30.

As the case moves forward, the football world watches closely, with Partey’s reputation and future now hanging in the balance. His first court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court will mark the beginning of a high-stakes legal battle that could have far-reaching consequences for the former Premier League star.
