YBNL Star Recalls Unconventional Signing Story and Making Debut Album in Just 5 Days”
Nigerian music sensation Fireboy DML has shared the incredible story of how superstar rapper Olamide signed him to YBNL Nation through a life-changing WhatsApp message.
In a candid interview on 90s Baby Show, the Peru hitmaker described the surreal moment when his career transformed overnight. “I was literally worrying about where to live when someone told me Olamide wanted to talk,” Fireboy recalled with a smile.
The Text That Changed Everything
The signing story sounds like something from a Nollywood script:
- Fireboy was squatting with a friend who planned to move out
- While venting to fellow artists Oxlade and Brainy in the studio, he got “the call”
- Initially thinking it was an April Fool’s joke, he hesitantly messaged the number provided
“Olamide simply asked if I was signed and if I wanted to join YBNL,” Fireboy said, still marveling at the memory. “Before I could process it, he tweeted the announcement. Just like that – boom! – my phone exploded with notifications.”
Five Days to Make History
True to Olamide’s spontaneous nature, Fireboy’s critically acclaimed debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps came together at lightning speed.
“He created a WhatsApp group and we made the entire album in five days,” the Vibration singer revealed. “The night it dropped, I’ve never been more nervous in my life.”
Now one of Africa’s biggest stars, Fireboy paid tribute to his mentor: “Olamide has been a blessing and guiding force. When his spirit says move, he moves – that’s just who he is.”
The heartwarming story offers fans a rare glimpse into the human side of Nigeria’s music industry, where sometimes destiny arrives not with a contract signing, but with a simple WhatsApp notification.
