lockbuster Crosses N1.7 Billion Mark, Cementing Akindele’s Status as Box Office Powerhouse
Multi-award winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has set a new benchmark in Nigerian cinema, with her latest film “Behind The Scenes” becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood release of 2025 after earning a staggering ₦1.767 billion in under four weeks.
The milestone was celebrated by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, which thanked audiences for their “love and support” in a social media post announcing the record. The film also dominated its opening weekend, breaking five records including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day with ₦129.5 million.
“This is a testament to the power of our stories and the unwavering support of Nigerian movie lovers,” Akindele said in response to the achievement. “I am deeply grateful.”
This marks the third time Akindele has produced a film that crossed the ₦1 billion mark, following the historic successes of “A Tribe Called Judah” and “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” which holds the record for Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend and highest overall gross.
Featuring a star-studded ensemble including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, “Behind The Scenes” generated significant early buzz through advanced screenings in December, paving the way for its record-breaking nationwide run.
The film’s phenomenal performance reinforces Akindele’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most bankable and influential figures, consistently delivering box office hits that resonate deeply with audiences across the country.
